The story entitled “The Mats” is more realistic to me.
It is a story about experiencing death in the family. When everyone thought that they had already moved on with the loss, suddenly the father showed signs that he hasn’t let go yet. He bought mats for every member of the family and even for his kids who had passed away.
I agree with how the Filipinos’ are presented in the story. Since most Filipino families are attach to each other, we are sometimes having difficulty to let go. We try to hold on so tight with the memories left to us by our loved ones. Similar to the story Mats, other families keep the things that belong to the person who had passed away. We continue to take good care of their belongings such as photographs, clothes or we even keep their room or their chair in the dinning area vacant.
I personally haven’t experienced a death of someone in the family who is very close and dear to me. I know it would be very difficult to say goodbye to someone who has played a big role in my life. Probably it would take a lot of time for me to be able to completely move on. But then, we have to learn to accept that death is part of people’s lives. For me we don’t have to forget our loved ones who passed away. We can continue to keep our wonderful memories with them but we have to learn to continue to live life without them physically around us. We have to be strong, move on and continue to live our lives happily.

for me, losing someone you love is vary painful, it may be easy for me to lose someone, but i am sure that it would be very painful, after we lose the ones that we love, moving on comes in.
for me, moving on is a part of your life where you don't forget the one we lost, rather, we try to recollect and reminisce all the joyful moments that we shared with that person. hindi natin isinasama yung kanilang mga ala-ala kapag nasa huling hantungan na sapagkat ito ay ang mga huling naihabilin satin ng mga ating mga mahal sa buhay. ito ay ang mga ala-ala na minsan, may isang taong kumurot sa ating puso, nagturo, nagalaga, nagpalaki at nagmahal sa atin, at nakasisiguro ako na kung nasan man sila ngayon ay natutuwa sila dahil nakikita nila tayong marunong tumayo sa sarili nating mga paa.
